Follow Your Heart VeganEgg Review + Vegan French Toast Recipe
OK, I realize I’m pretty much the last person on the planet to try Follow Your Heart’s VeganEgg, buuuut I gotta say, it was definitely worth the wait!
For those of you who aren’t familiar with this new egg replacer, it’s a 100% plant-based egg alternative that scrambles, bakes, and binds… we’re talkin’ vegan omelets and quiche, people! You can also use it to make cookies, muffins, cakes, and other sinfully sweet ish.
I love VeganEgg’s cartony-y packaging – very clever!
Pros: It smells farty like chicken eggs! Ha, who knew “it smells farty” would ever end up as a ‘pro’ in a VBR review? 😉 It’s gluten-free, soy-free, Kosher Parve, and non-GMO. It has the taste and bouncy texture of eggs, it’s dee-lish!
Cons: It takes longer than eggs to cook (6-8 mins) – which isn’t really a big deal. It’s kind of hard to find in stores, even many health food stores. 🙁
Ha, don’t judge my lack of veggies on this plate. 😉
Follow Your Heart VeganEgg French Toast
- The VeganEgg – 2 eggs worth (follow directions on package)
- 1/2 cup sweetened vanilla soy milk
- 1/4 cup maple syrup
- 1 tbsp. melted Earth Balance (vegan butter)
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp ginger powder
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 4-6 pieces of bread
Whisk everything together until fully blended. Take a piece of bread and dip both sides of it in the mixture. Plop it in a lightly oiled frying pan over medium heat until it starts to brown. Remove from heat and dust it with powdered sugar and slather it with copious amounts of maple syrup, and STUFF YO’ FACE!
