‘Gorgeous Vegan’ Spring 2016 Beauty Box Review
I recently connected with the kind folks at Next Gen Herbivore on Instagram, and they informed me about their brand new “Gorgeous Vegan” beauty subscription box. What’s unique about their box is that they have seasonal offerings (Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter) and they incorporate cruelty-free beauty + fashion.
I’m super stoked I got to preview their “Gorgeous Spring” starter box which typically ships March 1st to May 31st, so… spoiler alert!! Check out their beautiful presentation of goodies! Everything came packaged in a cute lil’ jewelry box with delicate white floraly bits – totally adorbs!
The “Gorgeous Vegan” Beauty Box comes in various sizes and price points to suit every budget.
Available boxes include:
- MINI – The ‘Mini’ box includes 2-3 full and travel-sized vegan beauty items in reusable storage box. Value of $50+ for $25 with free shipping.
- STARTER – The ‘Starter’ box (which is the one I’m reviewing) includes 4-6 full, sample, and travel-sized vegan beauty items, 1 cruelty-free accessory in a reusable storage box. Value of $75+ for $50 with free shipping.
- PRO – The ‘Pro’ box includes 7-11 full, sample, and travel-sized vegan beauty items, 1 cruelty-free accessory item, 1 clothing item made from 100% ethical fabrics in a reusable storage box. Value of $100+ for $75 with free shipping.
- LUX – The ‘Lux’ box includes 12-15 full, sample, and travel-sized vegan beauty items, 2 cruelty-free accessory items, 1 clothing item made from 100% ethical fabrics in a reusable storage box. Value of $150+ for $100 with free shipping.
The “Gorgeous Vegan” Spring 2016 Beauty Box included:
Cherry Chree liner brush – Eeps, I can’t find this liner brush anywhere online, and Cherry Chree doesn’t appear to have a website. This is a petit, travel-friendly eyeliner/brow brush with sleek packaging. I’ve been using it to fleekify mah brows lately, and it gets the job done nicely. I’m very interested in learning more about this line of makeup brushes. Does anyone have any extra info?
Ton Savon La Chatelaine Pomegranate Mulberry Shea Butter Hand Cream, $8 – Gah, I was super excited to try this hand cream because it smells SO incredible juicy and delish, but after reading about this item online, I discovered it contained beeswax – womp! Needless to say, I’ll be gifting this to a friend. This is a fairly new vegan beauty box so there’s no doubt in my mind that it’s still being fleshed out… Next Gen Herbivore – I’m here if you need me. 😉
Ingredients: Aqua (water), Organic Butyrospermum Parkii (shea) Butter Extract, Caprylic/capric Triglyceride, Glycerin, Cera Alba (beeswax), Cetearyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate, Potassium Palmitoyl Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Parfum (fragrance), Benzyl Alcohol, Organic Argania Spinosa (argan) Kernel Oil, Xanthan Gum, Dehydroacetic Acid, Tocopherol, Benzoic Acid, Sodium Hydroxide, Olus (vegetable) Oil, Sorbic Acid
Lavera Glossy Lips in Rosy Promise ~$15 – According to Lavera’s website, this item has been discontinued. No clue as to why either – it’s a really pretty, subtle shimmery neutral shade (swatched on thumb below).
Lavera Beauty Balm sample – I’ve yet to try Lavera’s 6-in-1 tinted moisturizer, but I like that it’s formulated for even the most sensitive skin.
Tarte Not So Slick Oil-Absorbing Blotting Papers, $10 – Now I don’t usually promote brands that have parent companies that animal test (Tarte is cruelty-free but their parent company, Kose, is not), but this is a rare exception since it was included as part of this vegan beauty box. These naturally-derived, green tea-infused blotting papers absorb excess oil and shine for a matte complexion. In general, blotting papers are my savior; my T-zone starts gettin’ hella shiny not too long after applying makeup. In a pinch, while out and about, I’ve totally been known to use booty sanitizer potty liners to sop up oil off my greasy mug… that’s how crazy my skin is!
True Natural Peppermint Crush Soap, $4.50 – True Natural and Lavera are sister companies or perhaps they are the same company. It’s interesting to see 3 items from this brand in a single box – no complaints, just an observation. This organic bar of soap is one of my favorite items in this bunch of goodies. I’m a sucker for mint, and this soap has a pretty strong minty smell, which I adore. I could sniff this bar of soap all day long. I’m excited to start using this as soon as my current bar of soap (which also happens to be minty) runs out.
Meow Meow Tweet Face Mask sample – I’ve yet to try this, but I sort of worship Meow Meow Tweet. Their deodorant and face wash are some of my key beauty staples, so I’m almost certain this mask is gonna be dope. Lovin’ their pure ingredients, too: kaolin- illite (french pink clay), *cucurbita pepo (pumpkin) powder, *cicer arietinum (chickpea) flour, *aloe barbadensis (aloe vera) powder
Overall impression: The packaging and presentation of this beauty box is spot on. It truly feels like your BFF just sent you a care package. I will definitely be using the jewelry box, and I LOVE the tiny flowers sprinkled throughout – such a thoughtful and elegant touch. The items in the box I’m most excited about are the soap, eyeliner/brow brush, and face mask.
I was surprised to see an item that contained beeswax, as well as an item from a company whose parent company animal tests. I was also confused as to why they would include an item (the lip gloss) that had been discontinued. I feel like Next Gen Herbivore is still trying to find their groove, and they’re still figuring stuff out, which is understandable. There’s got to be quite a learning curve when starting a curation service with so many guidelines and expectations. I have high hopes for this beauty box though, and I’m excited to see how they blossom and flourish in the seasons to come.
What do you guys think of Next Gen Herbivore’s “Gorgeous Vegan” beauty box? xx
