5 Best Vegan & All-Natural Mascaras
Ladies, let’s talk lashes. When I first started my beauty blog, there were like 2 vegan mascaras on the market and they were just kind of meh. Nowadays, there are a bunzillion ah-MAH-zing cruelty-free and vegan options, as well as quite a few all-natural formulas – yasssssssies! As I’m delving more and more into natural, non-toxic beauty, I’m discovering all sorts of gems, and today I wanted to share with you my fav lash lengtheners and oomphifyers. Les do dis!
5 Best Vegan & All-Natural Mascaras
(in no particular order)
1. Lily Lolo Mascara, $19.50 – I was first introduced to this fab mascara via Petit Vour (vegan subscription box). I’m pretty sure this was the first all-natural mascara I had ever tried… didn’t even know that was a thing! Anyhoo, it’s easy to apply (smooth, creamy, gentle formula), it adds volume, lengthens lashes, and it provides a nice everyday, beautiful look.
Ingredients: Aqua (water), myrica pubescens fruit cera (myrica pubescens fruit wax), propanediol, copernicia cerifera cera (copernicia cerifera (carnauba) wax), polyglyceryl-6 distearate, sucrose stearate, acacia senegal gum, glyceryl dibehenate, helianthus annuus seed cera (helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed wax), lactobacillus ferment bis-octyldodecyl dimer dilinoleate/propanediol copolymer, polyglyceryl-10 myristate, oryza sativa bran cera (oryza sativa (rice) bran wax), glyceryl caprylate, rosa canina fruit oil, argania spinosa kernel oil, xanthan gum, potassium sorbate, glyceryl undecylenate, may contain iron oxides
2. Red Apple Lipstick The Lash Project Gluten-Free Mascara, $37 – Ooh, you guys, this is brand spankin’ new, and it’s the sh*t (smudge and clump-free, yo!)! It gives lashes a weightless, soft feathery look, all while defining and strengthening those delicate hairsies. This formula is a bit drier than traditional wet looking mascaras, which smudge and clump. Make sure to wiggle the brush near the base of your lashes for a few seconds, before wiggling it upwards. Rotate the brush a quarter turn, then repeat the process.
Ingredients: Water, Acrylate Copolymer, Stearic Acid, Iron Oxides, Carnauba Wax, Glycerin, Synthetic Beeswax, Tromethamine, Polyvinylalcohol, Mica, Silica, Glyceryl Stearate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Myristoyl Pentapeptide-17, Ginkgo Biloba Leaf Extract, Bergamot Leaf Extract, Octapeptide-2, Acorus Calamus Root Extract, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Allantoin, Ethylhexylglycerin, Phenoxyethanol
3. 100% Pure Maracuja Mascara, $25 – Two things that immediately struck me the first time I used this (have been using it for years now, btw) – the packaging is GORG and it the formula smells delish – berry fruity and edible (that’s because it’s made with fruit and veggie pigments, coffee, herbs, etc). I like to use two coats of this mascara for a nice lengthening effect. My only gripe is that the brush is a bit thick and it can be tricky to not get on the skin sometimes.
Ingredients: Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Wax, Coconut Stearic Acid, Pantothenic Acid (Pro-vitamin B5), Fucus Vesiculosus (Seaweed) Powder Extract, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter, Passiflora Alata (Maracuja) Seed Oil, Extracts of Aloe Barbadensis (Organic Aloe Juice) Leaf*, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Germ Powder, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Powder, Coffea Arabica (Coffee Beans) Seed, Origanum Vulgare (Oregano) Leaf, Thymus Vulgaris (Thyme) Flower/Leaf, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Flower/Leaf/Stem, Hydrastis Canadensis (Goldenseal), Passiflora Alata (Maracuja) Seed, Lonicera Caprifolium Flower and Lonicera Japonica (Honeysuckle) Flower Extract, Vegetable Glycerin, May Contain Iron Oxides * Certified Organic
4. Pacifica Aquarian Gaze Water-Resistant Long Lash Mineral Mascara, $14 – I had to throw a waterproof mascara in the mix! This formula does an amazing job at lengthening and building volume. It’s infused with coconut oil, kelp extract, and vitamin B to hydrate and strengthen lashes, too. This mascara doesn’t clump and it’s stays the F put. This one get bonus points for being easily accessible at Target and for having the lowest price point.
Ingredients: Water (aqua), copernicia cerifera (carnauba) wax (thickener), euphorbia cerifera (candelilla) wax (thickener), acrylates crosspolymer, butylene glycol, stearic acid, glyceryl stearate, polyisobutene, phenoxyethanol, hydroxyethylcellulose sodium hydroxide, caprylyl glycol, ethylhexylglycerin, steareth-21, cocos nucifera (coconut) oil, panthenol (vitamin b), macrocystis pyrifera (kelp) extract, sodium dehydroacetate, disodium edta, hexylene glycol, iron oxides ci 77491, 77492, ci 77499
5. Suncoat Sugar Based Mascara, $15 – This is probably the hippie-est formula of the bunch (and I totes mean that in a complimentary way), and I love it so much! If you have super sensitive eyes, this is your jam. It’s made with natural sugar-based biopolymer, kaolin clay, earth pigments and is enriched with vitamin E. It naturally builds lash volume and length but it’s not crazy or over-the-top. My absolute favorite part of this formula is the way it washes off – it’s easy-peasy to remove… in fact, you can even just gently rub your lashes with your fingers and it falls off beautifully (but it doesn’t flake or fall of on its own, so you don’t have to worry about that throughout the day). Enjoy this super short list of healthy ingredients…
Ingredients: Aqua (water), kaolin clay, vegetable glycerin, hydrolyzed Zee mays (corn) starch (natural sugar-based biopolymer), lecithin, Citrus grandis (grapefruit) seed extract, tocopherol (vitamin E), citric acid, mineral pigments
