Does Musely work? Musely reviews 2023

In my ripe ol’ age of 43, I’ve been dealing with hyperpigmentation, age spots, and rosacea for 10+ years. While my go-to remedies are typically strong vitamin c serums and creams (and staying out of the sun!), I was excited to give Musely’s popular “The Spot Cream” a whirl. I had been seeing compelling Facebook ads with before/after pics for quite some time, and I’ve always wondered if the results were as mind blowing in real life.

Musely offers effective and affordable prescription skincare sans dermatologist visits and spendy products. Everything is conveniently and affordably done through their website with some clicks of buttons and a few uploads of face pics (for your virtual consultation to get your custom prescription from Musely’s board certified dermatologists). It’s a quick and easy process! The virtual dermatologist consultation fee is $20 and The Spot Cream costs $64 (2 months supply), and it gets mailed out promptly (free shipping).

Is Musely Legitimate?

So during my consult, I left a note requesting one of the stronger prescriptions, and I wound up with their Erase formula (which they felt was best suited for my skin based on the pics and info I provided).

Erase Formula:

  • Hydroquinone 12% (fades dark spots by preventing the formation of excess melanin in skin)
  • Kojic Acid 6% (has melanin-blocking properties)
  • Niacinamide 2% (reduces inflammation, improving smoothness and skin structure)
  • Hydrocortisone 1% (for Initial 2-month only) (mild steroid used to treat redness, itching, and inflammation of the skin)

Just a heads up, they offer a hydroquinone-free formula as well for those who want to avoid this ingredient. Also, it is recommended to switch to the hydroquinone free option (HQ Free+) for a few months before going back to an HQ cream… not doing so can turn your skin a blue-ish grey color.

Does Musely really work on dark spots?

I use a pea size amount of this cream in the a.m. and let it fully absorb before applying moisturizer and sunscreen (suuuper important to wear 30 spf or higher daily, even in the winter months!). It can take 6-8 weeks for people to see results, but I gotta say, I noticed fading take place within a couple weeks – I almost couldn’t believe it! My skin tone definitely looks more even and the brown freckle-y spots near the corners of my eyes have significantly subsided. My only mini gripe about this cream, or these types of prescription strength creams in general, is that you need to stay consistent and use these products long term; it’s a commitment!

Left: before; Right: after 4 weeks of use (almost looks like it has a blurring effect, but I didn’t touch it)

I added The Cleanser and Day Cream (tinted spf 30) bundle which goes for $30. The cleanser is gentle and removes makeup and gunk effectively, and the Day Cream applies effortlessly and doesn’t leave any residue or cast. This post really isn’t about these products but I did want to mention I got them! 🙂
