Don’t Make these Critical Hair Care Mistakes
It’s so important that you take care of your hair. Healthy hair will always make you feel better about yourself and it will also give you a newfound level of confidence. Healthy hair is beautiful hair, and if you can keep yours healthy and hydrated then this will help you going forward. If you feel as though your hair is damaged or if you worry that you aren’t using the best products for your hair then there are some things you can do about this. If you want some help, then take a look below.
Overwashing your Hair
Nothing feels better than freshly washed hair. For some, the feeling of clean hair can be addicting. While shampoo is great at removing excess dirt, grime and build-up, it can also strip your hair of crucial oils. It can also leave it feeling both dry and dehydrated. If you want to avoid this then you need to make sure that you avoid using harsh shampoo, or anything that contains sulfates. You will also want to wash your hair 2-3 times a week, and no more. If you can do this then there’s no reason why you shouldn’t be able to prevent issues such as dryness or damage.
Dying your Hair
Although there is nothing wrong with dying your hair, you do have to remember that dying is the best way for you to dry it out. If you have the urge to try a new color, or if you are debating going from brunette to brown then this is fine, just don’t overdo it. You also need to try and avoid changing your hair color too drastically. If you do then you may find that you end up having to apply way more treatment to your hair and this can lead to even more dryness. The chemicals in bleaching alone are incredibly bad for your hair, so make sure you dye your hair in moderation. If possible, you also need to take extra steps to maintain your dyed hair too.
Brushing your Hair when Wet
If you have long or even textured hair then brushing is one of the best ways for you to eliminate those long and tangled knots. While it’s fine to do this when your hair is dry, it can be damaging. Hair is porous and this makes it both expandable and flexible when wet. If you brush your hair during this time then you may find that your hair ends up losing its natural strength and bounce. If your hair is wet then be sure to leave it until it is fully dry before you try and brush it or you will end up causing more damage than you might realize.
Not Washing Your Scalp
When you jump in the shower, it’s all too easy for you to just focus on your hair. Your hair may become loaded with grease, whether it’s from your hair’s natural oils or whether it’s from products such as hairspray. With that in mind, you also need to cleanse your scalp as well. Over time, your scalp can easily become covered in dirt and product build-up, not to mention that dead skin cells can also add to the problem. If you want to do something about this then you need to make sure that you focus on your scalp where possible. You also need to support natural hair growth by massaging the scalp regularly. If you struggle with a lot of dandruff or dermatitis then you do need to spend a bit of extra time here because if you don’t then you may find that your hair quality reduces over time. Dirt can easily block the hair follicles in your scalp too so when shampooing, pay special attention to the roots and the follicles of your hair as this will make a major difference overall.
Using Low-Quality Items
There is no shortage of hair care tools out there right now. Some of them can come with huge price tags too. While you should not spend beyond your budget paying out for a tool, at the same time, you do need to try and make sure that you don’t cheapen out either. Cheap and poorly-made hair care tools can make your hair dry out and it can also have a huge impact on your hair’s overall health. Thankfully, there are a lot of solutions out there that you can use to help yourself. Infrared and even ionic heating tools are all great as they can heat your hair without causing any kind of damage.
Going to Sleep with Wet Hair
Having a shower before bed can make you feel better. After all, when you have had a long day, there’s nothing better than washing the stress away. Unfortunately, even though this is a harmless activity, you may find that it can lead to damaging consequences. When you go to bed with hair that is still wet, you will create the perfect breeding ground for a range of bacteria. This can lead to dandruff and various other scalp conditions. While it may be tempting to jump into bed after your shower, at least dry your hair before you doze off.
Not Protecting Your Hair
For a lot of people, heat styling is the only way to get hair perfect. While using good tools will certainly help you to avoid damage and breakages, you do need to make sure that you don’t use them too often, or for too long. Heat protection tools are great if you want a protective layer on your hair and they also stop severe damage from affecting the outer cuticle layer too. As a bonus, they also help you with pre-styling too. This enhances both volume and shape. If you have very wavy hair then you may have further issues on your hands, as you might need to use additional tools to get the look you are going for. Being Too Rough with Your Hair
If you have your hair in a bobble or if you are always putting it up and pulling it down then this can damage your hair too. One way for you to work around this would be for you to try and mess with your hair as little as possible. Take a small comb with you so you can adjust your hair on the go, but ultimately, stick with a style. If you can do this then you will soon find that you can avoid messing it up during the day, which can lead to the use of even more styling tools. If you workout a lot and need to put your hair up for that then don’t pull your bobble too tight if it means putting pressure on your hair. Instead, opt for a sweatband or use a bobble that is softer. If you can do this then you will soon find that it is easier for you to get the overall look you are going for without compromise.
So, if you avoid the top mistakes, you should be able to take way better care of your hair. Why not see what works for you today? It’s never been easier for you to get the look you are going for and you’d be surprised at what a difference it can make. On a final note, make sure you visit your stylist on a regular basis too, to give those split ends a much-needed trim.
