M’kay, let’s dive in to this bad boy!
November’s LaRitzy beauty box included:
Glam Natural Finishing Powder ($30 value) – Finishing powder is one of my favorite beauty essentials. It kind of sets everything in place and gives your face a flawless, photoshopped/Instagram filter finish. 😉 This super fine powder is velvety soft and it applies super easily (I just use a giant, fluffy powder brush). I was a little surprised that it’s only made with one ingredient and that ingredient is silicone powder (?). I tried to do some research on the internet to figure out wtf it is, because it sounds like a derivative of rubber or something, but it’s hard to find a clear answer. Does anyone have any insight on this? I’m so used to natural finishing powders being made with ingredients like corn starch and tapioca powder that I’m a little caught off guard.
Lauren Brooke Cosmetiques Pressed Cheek Colour in Sweet Sixteen ($14 value) – This is a really pretty neutral pink (swatched on my finger in the pic below), and it’s made with nourishing ingredients like orange peel wax, jojoba, broccoli seed, and zinc (for sun protection). I personally love the size of this blush. It’s on the smaller side, making it convenient for travel… also just nice to cut down on the bulk, especially when it comes to makeup bags.
Palmetto Derma Collagen Booster & Restoration Serum* ($48 value – DANG!) – First of all there are different kinds of facial serums – creams, gels, oils… they’ve all got there place, but I tend to gravitate toward quick-drying gels since I slather oils on my face nightly anyway. This one I think fits into the gel category. It’s actually suuuper thin (consistency of aloe vera gel) and soaks into the skin almost immediately, which I like. It’s loaded with vitamin C & E, hyaluronic acid, aloe, gotu kola and other super-powered, anti-aging ingredients. I will most definitely be using this until it’s all gone.
Jacq’s Organics Green Smoothie Face Scrub & Masque* ($17.50 value) – I recognize this gem from June’s Petit Vour vegan beauty box. This powdery blend of organic sea kelp, activated bamboo charcoal, rhassoul, bentonite clay, nuts, herbs and flowers (tamanu, ginger, rosemary, and peppermint) is beyond awesome. It smells delicious, and I can feel it sucking the impurities out of mah face. It’s so easy to use: mix 1 1/2 teaspoons of the powder with warm water (I used jojoba oil) to form a creamy paste. Apply and leave on for 10-15 minutes, and rinse with warm water. I loooove powder face masks… they have a way longer shelf life than the pre-mixed ones and you can customize the formula to best suit your skin type.
*my faves
Overall impression: The value of this box is insane – $110 worth of good for $25 and that includes free shipping! Totally blown away! My faves of the bunch are the serum and mask. I really like the variety of makeup and skincare products this month, and in general I think laRaitzy is a really fun way to discover new healthy vegan beauty brands. I still need to research silicone powder and figure out what to make of GN’s finishing powder, but if anyone can shed some light, it’s greatly appreciated. xo
